Through the gracious support of the USAID funded Kenya Agriculture Value Chain Enterprises (KAVES) program, the KHC got into a project aimed at supporting the operationalization of the KHC while at the same time providing the necessary support for a PPP framework to respond to market access challenges.

KAVES is partnering with the Kenya Horticulture Council (KHC), the Horticulture Crops Directorate (HCD), and the Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Services (KEPHIS) to:

  1. Review and update mandatory documentation for complying with horticulture market requirements.
  2. Develop a national pesticides sampling and monitoring plan that meets minimum EU statistical limits.
  3. Establishment of a committee certification scheme for export companies to increase transparency in awarding of export licenses. The aim will   be to guarantee that only export companies with the technical and infrastructure capacity necessary to meet market requirements are licensed to engage in export horticulture.
  4. Establish KHC as a unified Industry platform to develop and execute policies and strategies for increased market access.
